What is happening at Atypical Advantage? <Tap to Know>
A day with National Award Winner, Jayasri Burman
Accomplished artists have the responsibility to share their wisdom, craft and time with the younger generation of artists. In collaboration with Barkhat Beej Foundation, Jayasri Burman, National Award Winner and an exceptional contemporary artist who creates paintings inspired by myths, rituals and festivals, opened her studio and heart to our artists with disabilities for a beautiful, soul-stirring workshop. The day began with a warm welcome with young artists encouraged to draw inspiration from her works. Moving from canvas to canvas, she offered personal guidance, gentle motivation, and honest praise, nurturing each artist’s individuality while helping them refine their skills. Every artist received a signed copy of her coffee table book, a keepsake of this memorable day. We thank Jayasri Ma’am for her generosity and belief in the power of art to uplift and unite, gifting our artists unforgettable memories.
HDFC ERGO launches ‘The Unlovables’ to raise disability awareness
When HDFC Ergo approached us to raise awareness about disabilities, we created ‘The Unlovables’ — a podcast series that was raw, real, and unforgettable. Over 10 months and 15 episodes, we heard from trainers, parents, advocates, and individuals with different disabilities: Sai, Sachin and Sweta with Locomotor Disability, Varun, Karthik and Pranav on the autism spectrum, Resham, Ankita and Lipy with visual impairment and many other disability advocates. Each guest brought a fresh perspective, reminding us that no two journeys are alike yet similar in so many ways. What made it powerful? Our host, a person with a disability, gave the community a chance to speak for itself. In the final episode, we flipped the script, making the host the guest for a personal, heartwarming conclusion. The response from HDFC Ergo’s employees was overwhelming.
Atypical Advantage moves on-ground to stay rooted in the community
At Atypical Advantage, we believe that real inclusion happens when you step out of boardrooms and into people’s lives. That’s why we make it a priority to meet persons with disabilities and their communities on ground — to listen, understand their challenges, and hear what they truly expect from us. From Vineet’s meetups with the Sunadha Band and the Purple Fest artists in Goa, to Sakshi leading conversations at the Bangalore Gala, and Sashi our Board member’s Christmas catch-up with artists at Smoor, every moment has deepened our understanding. We’ve celebrated milestones like Anjali welcoming 23 recruits at Tata Motors, Shalini’s creative jam with Gayatri in Bangalore, heartfelt conversations between Soumya and Rohan in Ahmedabad, and Sharon meeting the incredible singer Shibani in Kolkata. These connections aren’t just meetings, they’re the foundation of how we build, grow, and stay rooted in what matters most to us: PEOPLE.
Atypical Advantage is India’s largest livelihood platform for Persons with Disabilities(PWD). Whether it is a singer looking for a show, a visual artist looking to sell their paintings, or job seekers with disabilities looking for career opportunities, it bridges the supply & demand side inefficiencies so that Persons with Disabilities can earn a dignified income. We have a large pool of 30,000+ talents with disabilities and have worked with 400+ corporates within a short span of 4 years. We were also featured on Shark Tank Season 2 and were declared the winner of the prestigious National Startup Award for Social Impact, and the National Award for Best Organization empowering persons with disabilities in 2024, conferred by the Union Government.
