Atypical Advantage logo. When art, sport and grit stays for a lifetime.
This global organization is changing the way employees learn about disability. An American MNC kicked off its disability week celebrations with a spirited wheelchair basketball match between its employees and the national para team. Most of the employees were on wheelchairs for the first time. Navigating them wasn’t easy, but they played with grit and walked away with a new sense of respect for wheelchair users. This was followed by a simulation game: one teammate blindfolded, the other guiding from a wheelchair. At first, prompts like “move a little to the right” fell flat. Soon they realised that “a little” holds no value when vision is limited. Instructions became sharper: “two steps forward,” “turn 45 degrees.” And in decoding the maze, they also decoded their unconscious biases. On day two artist Gayatri Gupta led a tile art workshop, where many said they hadn’t picked up a marker in years. But by the end, they were asking for extra tiles, because the act of creating together, without judgment, was unexpectedly therapeutic. It wasn’t just a training, but a powerful celebration of Inclusion.
Gone too soon, but never gone: Aishwarya and Nitin’s art lives on. Aishwarya and Nitin never met, but their hearts beat in the same language: ART. Aishwarya, born with Spina Bifida, painted her way through pain and possibility, from live events with Tanishq to international exhibitions and working with innumerable leading brands. She even taught herself to paint with both hands, as if one couldn’t hold all her creativity. Meanwhile, Nitin, an artist with Down Syndrome, painted with quiet brilliance. His bold colours and honest lines made people stop, feel, and see the world through his eyes. Exhibited across India, his art was his voice: raw, fearless, and beautiful. They were excelling in their careers, but life had other plans. Nitin passed away in May 2021 and Aishwarya in February 2024. Their rooms were no longer splattered with colour, but the canvases they left behind? They still speak of courage, dreams, and lives lived fully. When we spoke to their family, they said, "We often sit by their painting, remembering how they smiled and laughed while creating it. When we look at it now, it feels like they’re still here, bringing colour to the canvas and to our lives once”. Last week one of the customers ordered Nitin’s painting & we were reminded of this talent who left too soon.
From self-doubt to success: My journey to Godrej Capital. Gomtesh’s journey wasn’t easy. Despite having the skills, he was repeatedly rejected—only because of his locomotor disability. Just when he was losing hope, he found Atypical Advantage. “When I saw the opening at Godrej Capital, I wasn’t sure I was ready. But I gave it my all. With Atypical Advantage, I revisited core concepts, read through past interview experiences, and mentally prepared for what felt like the next big leap. Each interview round tested my skills, but also strengthen my confidence. Today, I’m proud to join the fintech space and grateful to Preeti and the team for believing in me,” says Gomtesh Gandhi, now placed at Godrej Capital.
