Short Bio
Anhad is a Sanskrit word, which in English means Sound of Universe, in simple language, anything that has no limits, is Anhad.
Anhad is the first of its kind band in India which is run by the visually impaired. Rumi Rajeev Sahir is the founder of this band who himself is visually impaired. Anhad like its name takes you to the real sound of silence which transcends the limitless. Anhad gives you a taste of Bollywood, gazal, Sufi, fusion, and semi-classical singing.
Rajat Panchal (keyboard)
A keyboardist by profession, Rajat Panchal is visually impaired. He is one of the founding members of the Anhad band, a group of disabled performing artists. For the last five-odd years, he has been doing stage shows and performances across India, from Jash-e-ada to Sa Re Ga Ma. He has acquired training under the legendary maestro, Sudhanshu Bahugana who has taught famous artists like Kailash Kher.
Manglyam Tomba (bass guitar)
Hailing from the north east Manipur, Manglyam Tomba can play multiple instruments. He started his musical journey with violin and later ventured into the bass guitar. He has been playing for Anhad for over a year now.
Hero Jeet (tabla)
Hero Jeet, a visually impaired tabla player, believes that craft should not be limited. This is why he continuously strives to share his knowledge with upcoming tabla players by conducting workshops in schools. Besides being a talented performer, he is also a great teacher.
Deepak Nagar (dholak)
A Dholak player, Deepak Nagar associated with the Anhad band in 2018. He too has performed at various festivals and events like Jashn-e-Ada and at the Constitution Club of Punjab.
Maharshi (drums)
Maharshi is one of the most experienced music artists in the Anhad band. He comes with seven years of experience in playing the drums. He joined the band two years ago and has since been a notable contributor. He performed at the Global Film Festival in 2021 and also at the Ayodhya festival.
Govind (harmonium)
Govind, a harmonium player, is the youngest member of the band. He is a self-taught artist and a quick learner. He is in 12th grade.
Rajeev (lead singer)
Rajeev Sahir is the founding member and the lead vocalist of the band. He is a writer, poet and worshipper of the Sufi Mystic poet Rumi. He started learning music at the age of 4. Soft-spoken and full of humility, Rajeev has performed at Rajghat in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2008, he went to a national-level singing competition in Jaipur and a year later he was a gold medalist at Punjab’s Gurunanak College.
