Priya is a young lady with Cerebral Palsy, due to brain fever at the age of 5 months. After constant therapies, she can walk and run and dance. She received her therapies and Special Education at the Spastics Society of Tamilnadu. She is very active in dance, business, sports, and social work. She is a passionate dancer, having performed on many stages, from the age of 7. She was part of the LEO Club, and for several years performed in many competitions and fundraising programs. The first stage performance was in the year 1995. To date, she is performing; maybe she is the only person with Cerebral Palsy who can perform. Many awards and laurels for her dance performance came her way over the years. And she has been an inspiration to many. Her disability was never a deterrent to being independent of doing her daily life tasks, but also to etch her living through her paintings and sales of greeting cards and paintings. Her mother is a Special Educator and was able to help her both professionally and as a parent in her development. Priya was an inspiration to her mother for starting many schools and centers not only in and around Chennai but also in rural areas. In 2012 she was affected by Cancer. Having overcome that, she is back to her form. She won a special award in National Dance Competition in the year 2014 conducted by Samarpan, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In 2017 she performed at Anna University, at the NSS Students Regional Meet, to an audience of more than 500. She participated in many Television shows and performs in them such as Dhoordharshan 1996, Performed in Sun TV at Anandha Vikatan Award Ceremony -2018, and Performed on Zee TV in 2018. She is been in sports too, Participating in many District, State level sports and National Special Olympics. Her certificates and medals numbering more than 100, Recently she won the Gold Medal by achieving First Place in the National Para Athletics 100 Meters running held at Patna in the year 2018. She is a self-employed woman, She does artwork to support herself, as well as support cancer patients who need financial help. She teaches this art form to children who have cancer at the Cancer Hospital Adyar, Chennai. She has been an inspiration for the movie ‘Peranbu’ and even taught the actor Sadhna to perform as a Spastic. She also appears in a few scenes in that movie.
