Shekhar Naik, born on 4th July 1986 in Shimoga, Karnataka, is a celebrated Indian blind cricketer and former captain of the Indian Blind Cricket Team. Born completely blind, he regained partial vision in one eye after a childhood accident and surgery. He discovered his passion for cricket at the Sri Sharada Devi School for the Blind and quickly rose through the ranks with his exceptional talent. Under his leadership, India won the inaugural T20 Blind Cricket World Cup in 2012 and the Blind Cricket World Cup in 2014. Known for his explosive batting, Shekhar has scored over 30 centuries in blind cricket. In recognition of his achievements and contribution to the sport, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2017, becoming the first blind cricketer to receive this honour. Today, he continues to inspire and mentor aspiring athletes with disabilities across the country.
