Published on: 05 Apr, 2024

In a world where abilities often overshadow disabilities, Atypical Advantage stands as a beacon of inspiration. Through vibrant murals and compelling stories, this platform showcases the remarkable talents of individuals with disabilities, turning ordinary walls into captivating narratives.

Let’s shine a spotlight on some mural masterpieces created by artists with disabilities, each a testament to their unique vision and style.

Niyaz Hussain, Aishwarya A, and Ajay Kumar Garg, the exceptional artists behind 'A Traveller’s Dream,' have breathed new life into goStops hostels across Delhi, Bengaluru, and Jaipur.

Niyaz is an artist from New Delhi who has overcome many challenges to pursue his passion. Affected by polio at the age of 2, he grew up in a lower-income family and had to support his younger siblings by working in the sabzi mandi after school. Despite the challenges, he found solace in art and began drawing portraits while working. Eventually, people took notice and suggested he pursue art seriously.

Ajay Kumar Garg, a hearing and speech-impaired artist from Rajasthan will leave you spellbound with his bold colour choices and inspiring artwork. He can draw on rice grains and also bring alive lifeless walls with his splendid artistic skills.

Chinmay Pradhan and Shreya Gupta, both with hearing disabilities, transformed the walls of the NASEOH Mumbai center with illustrations that integrate inclusivity and empowerment. Chinmay's creative painting and computer graphics skills, combined with Shreya's magic with a paintbrush, resulted in stunning murals that speak volumes.

Our artists made children fall in love with coming to school by painting a joyous mural for the Ramagondanahalli Government School in Bengaluru. They wanted to create a wall mural art on a huge 600 sq ft wall to display children’s daily activities along with the school’s six core values which are Integrity, Collaboration, Citizenship, Empathy, Resilience & Ownership. Aishwarya A, an artist with Spina Bifida, completely changed the face of the wall with her extraordinary brush strokes.

Arveend Budh Singh, a Delhi-based self-taught artist with locomotor disability, delighted Air Liquide with his wall mural showcasing the company’s values in 2022. His paintings are known for their grandeur and artistic excellence. He has mastered various mediums like acrylic, watercolours, and oil paints along with a plethora of painting techniques. The colours he uses are rich and his depictions are elaborate with playful use of gradients and shadows. After being impressed by his work, the brand came back wanting more.

From capturing the brand's vision of inclusivity to transforming a warehouse wall in Haryana, Niyaz's dedication knows no bounds.
