Disability Is a Right, Not Charity: Justice Chandrachud
At the India Inclusion Summit 2025, former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud stressed that disability should be viewed through a rights-based lens, not as an act of charity. He drew on his personal experience of raising two daughters with neuromuscular differences to highlight how society must change its perspective and focus on the strengths and potential of people with disabilities. Karnataka HC Seeks Report on Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act Implementation
The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government for a detailed status report within six weeks on how well the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is being implemented. The court flagged gaps such as missing disability identity cards and the lack of a dedicated fund, pushing for stronger accountability and action (Source: TOI)
