Devendra Jhajharia is one of India's most celebrated para-athletes, renowned for his exceptional achievements in para-javelin throw. Born on June 7, 1981, in Churu, Rajasthan, India, Devendra has overcome significant challenges to become one of the best in his sport. He competes in the F46 category, which is for athletes with an impairment in one or both upper limbs.
Devendra’s remarkable career includes winning two Paralympic gold medals — first at the 2004 Athens Paralympics, where he set a world record in javelin throw with a throw of 62.15 meters, and then again at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where he clinched gold with a throw of 63.97 meters, setting a new Paralympic record. He is also a multiple-time World Champion and has earned several medals at the Asian Para Games.
Jhajharia's achievements have earned him widespread recognition, and he was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, for his contribution to sports.
