This week we are highlighting transformative workplace inclusion, where Uno Minda promoted three hearing-impaired hires after they crushed production targets. NetApp hosted disability advocate Dhanya Ravi to inspire APAC employees, while Hindalco conducted a sensitization workshop debunking myths. Together, these initiatives prove disability inclusion drives productivity and corporate culture forward through Atypical Advantage. | | Three new hires, one target and an unexpected outcome: Uno Minda | When Mahendra, Manish, and Hardik, three professionals with hearing impairment, joined Uno Minda, they were assigned to the non-critical parts production line while their capabilities were being assessed. Their monthly target was producing 220 parts/month. Like many workplaces, there were unspoken assumptions and the answers came through the results. By the end of the month, they had produced 250 parts, so many that the production line had to be temporarily paused due to overproduction. That performance changed everything. Recognising their potential, Uno Minda promoted all three from the non-critical line to the critical parts production line and felicitated them for their outstanding achievement. At Atypical Advantage, we are not just celebrating their success, but we feel like proud parents watching their kids exceed every expectation. | Some stories change the way you see the world: NetApp | As part of its commitment to building a truly inclusive workplace, NetApp hosted a virtual session for its APAC employees featuring Dhanya Ravi, a motivational speaker living with Brittle Bone Disease. In an honest and heartfelt conversation, Dhanya shared her journey of navigating life with a disability, the challenges she has overcome, and how volunteering has given her a deeper sense of purpose. Her story was moving, but it was also about redefining possibilities and encouraging others to look beyond limitations. The session was thoughtfully moderated by Pragati from the NetApp team, who also shared her own experiences as a person with a disability. The conversation resonated deeply with participants, sparking meaningful reflections on empathy, accessibility, and the role each of us plays in creating workplaces where everyone belongs. For once, talking about disability didn’t feel like policy, but a reality. | When conversations begin by challenging assumptions: Hindalco | Atypical Advantage recently conducted a 90-minute virtual Disability Sensitization Session for Hindalco, an Aditya Birla Group company, bringing together participants from diverse business functions. Facilitated by Saumya, the session included interactive workplace scenarios, engaging activities, and thought-provoking discussions. The star segment of this workshop, Myths vs. Facts, encouraged participants to question long-held misconceptions about disability and replace them with informed perspectives. The session also shed light on both visible and invisible disabilities, highlighting why accessibility is everyone's responsibility. | NMC Directs Medical Colleges to Set Up 'Enabling Units' for Students with Disabilities | The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued guidelines directing medical colleges across India to establish dedicated "Enabling Units." These units are mandated to facilitate reasonable accommodations, clinical and academic support, and barrier-free access, ensuring medical students with disabilities can fully participate in lectures, laboratory sessions, and clinical training.
