What happens when Inclusion goes beyond a Policy?

Nexus Select Trust drives workplace inclusion by hiring 100+ PWDs, training employees in Indian Sign Language, and supporting ex-servicemen with career opportunities. Through initiatives like WOMENtoring and Pink Parking across, Nexus is recognized as an Exceptional Employee Experience in Inclusion & Belonging by ET HR World.

It starts with Hiring and then continues

Hiring creates opportunities, but everyday interactions are what make a workplace truly inclusive. Over the years, more than 100 Persons with Disabilities, including Speech and Hearing-Impaired (SHI) professionals, have joined teams across Nexus Select Trust's malls and corporate offices. To ensure communication grows alongside representation, over 2100+ employees participated across DEI learning and engagement initiatives, making simple conversations and collaboration more accessible. That spirit came alive at Nexus Seawoods when our Speech and Hearing-Impaired artist, Shreya Gupta, hosted an interactive caricature workshop. Employees didn't just walk away with personalised sketches; they also learnt the basics of caricature art from Shreya herself. The session became a joyful exchange of creativity, curiosity and connection, reminding everyone that inclusion is often built through shared experiences.

When sign language became the loudest voice in the room

Some moments don't need spoken words to leave a lasting impact. During Independence Day celebrations, mall teams came together with their Speech and Hearing-Impaired colleagues to perform the National Anthem in Indian Sign Language. The performance was a moving reminder that every voice deserves to be seen and celebrated, whether spoken or signed. The celebrations have also become a platform for artists and performers with disabilities. For four consecutive Independence Days, live art and performances across Nexus malls have introduced thousands of visitors to exceptional talent while giving artists an opportunity to engage with new audiences. What began as a celebration has gradually evolved into a tradition that many artists look forward to every year.

Inclusion has many faces

Inclusion becomes meaningful when it extends across different communities and everyday experiences. Alongside creating opportunities for Persons with Disabilities, 2% of their workforce consists of ex-servicemen and their kin who have built second careers across the organisation. Women-focused initiatives such as WOMENtoring continue to support professional growth and leadership, while Happyness for Her reached over 200,000 women and girls this year with menstrual health awareness and access to 1.5 million sustainable sanitary products. Small ideas have also grown into larger changes. What started as Pink Parking at a single mall was expanded across almost all their malls within a year, making everyday visits safer and more convenient for women.

Recently, Nexus was felicitated as an Exceptional Employee Experience in Inclusion & Belonging by ET HR World. True inclusion is actually shaped by consistent actions, thoughtful design, and opportunities that help different communities feel welcomed, valued, and empowered.
