Ashutosh Panigrahi, aged 14 years, is an autistic child having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He is presently based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand with his parents Biswajit and Nibedita, who originally hail from Odisha. He was diagnosed with ASD at the age of nine. Some of the symptoms like repetitive action, poor concentration in activities, lack of social skills, proper communication, and abstract behavior became noticeable which were earlier overlooked by his parents due to ignorance. He also attends regular school at Jamshedpur, though he is not sound in his studies. He has poor fine motor skills which have hampered his handwriting and other related activities.
After the diagnosis, Ashutosh’s parents took the bold step of sensitizing the school teachers, his friends, and his social circle. They spread awareness about the disorder and appealed for promoting an environment of encouragement and cooperation for such types of children. They appealed to people to come out of social stigma and support such types of children who can live with dignity in society. Ashutosh has a passion for singing, particularly classical Odia bhajans of Lord Jagannath. Presently, he is learning classical Hindustani music. His parents wish him to acquire some other skills such as computers in addition to music to earn a livelihood in the future and become independent in day-to-day life. However, it seems quite tough given the multitude of challenges these children face in daily life.

His fine motor skills and academics may be constrained by ASD, but his humble nature and melodious voice sets him apart from the rest of his age group. He is blessed with a generous presence and honesty is his trademark character. Excellent performance ?... Ashu...keep it up dear. Raga based songs are not very easy to sing and not everyone's cup of tea. But you have picked it up so well... congratulations dear.
