Short Bio
The main thing that strikes you about Uday Dhuri is his love for learning. That, and the fact that he never gives up. Partially blind right from birth, Uday graduated from a regular school by borrowing his friends’ books and studying from them, after which he did a variety of jobs from loader to office boy while completing a BCom degree. Uday wanted to explore a job that he could succeed at with his partial vision, and so did courses in telephone operating, basic computer skills, acupressure, and massage at the National Association of the Blind (NAB). Determined to learn more, he went to Ahmedabad and did a three-year diploma in physiotherapy. On his return to Mumbai, Uday started working part-time as a trainer and lecturer at NAB, where he still works, as he juggles physiotherapy home visits. Uday’s wife, who is also partially blind, has an MCom degree and looks after their four-year-old son. Uday’s mantra in life is to keep learning new things; to this end, he has done workshops in osteopathy manipulation, cupping, dry needling, and Kinesio taping.
