A philosopher, mendicant, meditator, spiritual teacher, and religious leader who was born in Lumbini, Nepal and lived in Ancient India, Buddha, is revered as the founder of the world religion of Buddhism, and worshipped by most Buddhist schools as the Enlightened One who has transcended Karma and escaped the cycle of birth and rebirth. It is important to note that the Buddha did not say that everything that happens is the result of karma alone. In fact when the Buddha was asked to state the causes of pain and pleasure, he listed various physical and environmental causes alongside karma.
