How can we improve India’s massive educational and skilling inequality for millions of people with disabilities? | Despite constitutional guarantees and reservations, inequality remains deeply entrenched. Many children with disabilities never enter school, others drop out early, and far too few complete higher education. These gaps directly translate into unequal employment outcomes without education; meaningful jobs remain out of reach. India mandates 5% reservation for persons with disabilities in higher education, including IITs and other premier institutes, yet many seats go vacant due to lack of preparation, awareness, accessibility, and support systems. With AI reshaping the future of work, this gap will only widen unless we act now. These concerns moved us to act not just speak. We are launching Atypical Academy, India’s first accessible learning platform for persons with disabilities, with screen-reader friendly design, sign-language learning support, dedicated mentors, adaptive learning, and an AI tutor to help learners study at their own pace. | Get persons with disabilities into India’s top colleges | We must dramatically increase the number of students who are not just eligible for reserved seats, but highly competitive especially in Maths, Science and STEM, which will define the future. We are launching the first batches for JEE & CUET in 2026 and wait for a person with disability to be an All India Rank 1 soon. | Drive technical and manufacturing education | India’s growth depends on manufacturing and advanced vocational skills from mechatronics to EVs, batteries and semiconductors. Inclusion must be embedded in ITIs and vocational pathways that lead to sustainable livelihoods. At Atypical Advantage, we are already training persons with disabilities with leading manufacturing brands across 15+ plants proving what is possible with the right skills and training. We would be launching the first ever technical education in partnership with various state Governments & ITIs to make manufacturing more inclusive. | Strengthen English literacy for individuals with hearing disabilities | Millions of individuals with hearing disabilities remain excluded from higher-paying jobs, higher education, and leadership roles due to limited English communication skills. While sign language is essential, strong English literacy is equally critical to enable confidence, independence, and career mobility in an English-dominant world. To bridge this gap, Atypical Advantage is launching a 350-hour English training program designed specifically for hearing-impaired learners. The program includes self-paced learning along with weekly trainer-led sessions, focusing on reading, writing, and everyday communication to help learners navigate academic, professional, and daily life more effectively. | The Hindu Features Atypical Advantage’s Atypical Academy Launch | The Hindu, in its News from the World of Education edition, featured Atypical Advantage’s launch of Atypical Academy, a learning platform designed by and for persons with disabilities. The platform offers inclusive courses such as CUET and IIT-JEE coaching, English literacy for deaf learners, MS Office training for learners with visual impairment, and other skilling programs. Admissions and scholarship applications are currently open, marking a significant step toward accessible and inclusive education. (The Hindu) | Govt Plans to Adopt ‘Disha’ Curriculum in Special Schools | The Odisha government is planning to introduce the specially designed ‘Disha’ curriculum in special schools to better meet the learning needs of students with disabilities, aiming to tailor educational content to their developmental and cognitive abilities and strengthen inclusive learning outcomes across the state.
